Partner Spotlight: Meet Nico, Featured Artist at Enderly

Meet Nico Arte, featured artist at the Enderly Coffee Shop.

Nico Arte, featured artist at Enderly Coffee Shop in Charlotte, NC

Originally from Colombia, Nico’s work is inspired by the art he grew up seeing everywhere he went. According to Nico, his pieces are a mix of abstract, folk art, and architectural design – he hasn’t quite put his finger on what his style is called, other than to call it a “colorful palette of happiness”.

The folk art in Colombia, specifically, inspired Nico due to its emphasis on storytelling, community, and cultural traditions rather than the formality of more academic styles. It seemed like a natural fit, then, to display Nico’s art at the Enderly shop.

As luck would have it, family (specifically their kids!) brought Tony and Nico together. When Tony learned more about Nico and his work, he invited him to check out the space. According to Nico, it was love at first sight. The community at Enderly’s coffee shop – both employees and customers – felt like the exact type of people who would appreciate and enjoy seeing Nico’s art.

Each of the pieces displayed at Enderly’s shop evoke the theme of community – specifically the journey of the immigrant; coming to America and being embraced by a new group of family and friends. In Nico’s mind, the coffee shop is a similar type of experience; a place where people from all backgrounds can come together over a shared interest.

Interested in seeing Nico’s work? It’s all on display (and for sale!) at the shop right now: 2620 Tuckaseegee Rd.

Partner Spotlight: Shelves Bookstore

Did you know? Many big box retailers sell their book inventory at a loss. You might be asking: Why do they do this? The simple – and unfortunate – answer: To squash competition.

So, when a local bookstore pops up, it’s imperative that we take notice for a number of reasons.

Abby Glen, Founder and Owner of Shelves Bookstore, Charlotte, NC

Enter: Shelves Bookstore. Founded in 2019 by Abby Glen, Shelves is an online bookstore that partners with multiple brick & mortar stores all over Charlotte, including Enderly Coffee.

We recently sat down with Abby to ask her a little about Shelves Bookstore, how they’ve grown and pivoted during the pandemic, and why buying from a local bookstore is the perfect holiday purchase.

Here’s what she had to say:

What was the original vision for Shelves? Why did you decide to open a bookstore?

The original vision for Shelves was to be a brick and mortar store. I love the bookstore experience. I always wanted to open a bookstore because I enjoy fellowship with people. I envisioned creating a space that would allow conversations, fellowship and community to occur – all in one space focused on knowledge and leisure.

Looking back, I now see that I have the ability to create community, even if I don’t have a brick and mortar. The pandemic helped me realize that it doesn’t have to look the way that I thought it would at the beginning. One of the biggest things I believe in is that it is not always what it seems.

What happened to Shelves during the pandemic? How did you pivot?

The last event Shelves had before COVID was at Enderly – I still remember that day so clearly. The first two months of quarantine, orders barely trickled in. We weren’t selling online, our website was barebones at the time, so things felt pretty desperate.

Then one morning I woke up and I heard as clear as day: “The bread comes after the thirst.” At first I wasn’t sure what it meant, but I decided to trust God and see what happened.

In May of 2020, I decided to have a pop-up market in Shamrock Park. Before the pandemic, I had planned to have a pop-up there and reached out to see if they would still have me. I had a few books left over from the March event at Enderly and thought “Why not?”

After receiving the go-ahead, I booked the pop-up for the last Saturday in May. Then, the weekend before I was set to have the market, George Floyd was murdered. When I showed up on the day of the market, there was a lot of buzz about George Floyd. The energy was palpable.

Shelves Bookstore is a Community Partner of Enderly Coffee

The next day, I got an online submission from California. Until this point, I hadn’t gotten much traction online, so I wasn’t sure what to think of it. From there, things started moving quickly.

On Monday, June 1 Charlotte Agenda (now Axios) called and interviewed me. They were putting together a list of black-owned businesses in Charlotte. The next morning, I woke up to dozens of online book submissions. Shelves became a recipient of all of the financial support people decided to shower on Black-owned businesses during racial reconciliation in 2020. The growth was exponential! I took the money we earned and invested it into our website. And we’ve been growing and moving forward ever since.

What’s the “why” behind Shelves Bookstore?

MY why is truly for people to understand that it’s not always what it seems. As a person of faith, what I have been trying to encourage other people to do is: don’t be so quick to assume that just because something appears a certain way, that it will always be that way. You have to be open to what God will provide you once you surrender your perception.

For instance, I might be accidentally shutting out the people that I was intended to touch all along if I shut things down and am afraid to explore the options.

Why do you believe that reading is freedom?

You should never let someone tell you what something is; go and read it for yourself if you have access. Reading will free you from the potential bias and deception that people are often trying to trap you in. You never want to give someone ownership over what you’re thinking.

How can we support Shelves Bookstore this holiday season?

The 3-month book subscription is a great choice for a holiday gift. We offer both adult and young adult books and you can choose from 6 different categories. The subscription service is open for purchase every 15th-19th of the month, so if you want to get this for a holiday gift keep that in mind! After purchasing the subscription, a book will be delivered (via mail, or Enderly’s delivery service – if applicable) the next month. All the information about the subscription service can be found on Shelves’ website.

If subscriptions aren’t your thing, you can shop at one of our Pop-Up Markets (check out our website or social media for more information!) or you can always purchase an individual book. If you live in Charlotte, you can purchase a book on our website and have it delivered with your Enderly Friday Delivery. We are also running a Friday Delivery special, where we will cover the cost of delivery if you purchase a book. You can find more information on our website.

What’s the best way to keep in touch with Shelves?

Coffee Sampler Box

Maybe the person you’re thinking of doesn’t quite know what they want to commit to yet – we get it. If you think your gift recipient is more of a “try-before-you-buy” person, try the Coffee Sampler Box.

With 4 different options to choose from, the Coffee Sampler Box is perfect for someone new to Enderly Coffee or the more adventurous type, looking to explore all their options.

Coffee Subscription

Look, we’ve all walked into the kitchen at 6am only to find that our last bag of beans was consumed yesterday. It’s tragic.

Don’t leave your family hanging: Enderly’s Coffee Subscription is the perfect way to make sure that you – or someone you love – never experiences this kind of disappointment. Coffee coming straight to your door is quite possibly the best holiday gift anyone could ask for.

Update: November's Fundraiser for Foster Village Charlotte!

What A Month!!! Foster Village Charlotte gets more than half of it’s funding from individuals, so this campaign has huge significance each year! To be honest, the campaign was much slower than previous years. Whether it be the looming recession, inflation, change in social media algorithms, whatever… The world of giving felt like a very different place for much of November.

That is, however, until the final day #GivingTuesday…. You all showed up! With the contributions of almost 500 individuals over 30 days, we are thrilled to share the update below from Becky, co-founder of Foster Village Charlotte!

***Enderly was able to raise $3265 (surpassing our goal of $2500) and matched $2700 of other donations across the campaign. For everyone who contributed (or bought a bag of the Foster Village Blend all year long), THANK YOU! Our region’s families are better off with this organization, no doubt about it.

From Becky & Foster village charlotte

Foster the Movement Fundraisers,

Whew, WHAT A MOVEMENT. This village is so incredibly special. Our team spent most of yesterday refreshing the campaign page and watching in awe as we got closer to the goal. THANK YOU for your dedication this month to share our mission and vision to those around you. Advocacy begins with awareness and education and we are so grateful for the countless ripple effects that will follow because you said YES to being a part of this movement.

  • 46 fundraisers (YOU!)

  • 494 supporters (YOUR VILLAGE!)

  • $80,591 raised

What I love most about this campaign is the collective energy of bringing together what we can and watching it grow. Whether you made your goal, got close to it, or blew threw it, we are just humbled and encouraged for everyone's intention with us!

If you have any feedback or stories you'd love to share, please send them my way!

A big congrats to Maria for most donors on the page, Josclyn for most money raised, Samantha and Robin for most social media/creative campaigns.

2022 Biggest Accomplishment: We Moved a Roastery!

Enderly Coffee’s very own Alyssa Wise!

This summer, we took on one of our biggest projects yet: moving into a new roastery! So I thought it would be fun to sit down with our very own Alyssa Wise to learn just how important this move is for Enderly – and what doors it will open up for us!

Here’s what Alyssa shared:

Why did Enderly decide to find a new roasting location?

We decided to move into a new roasting location because of growth. Things were getting cramped in the old space and keeping up with the demand of wholesale orders meant looking for a new place to call home.

What made this location the right fit for Enderly?

We were in need of square footage and a loading dock to provide us with more room to grow and accommodate our larger wholesale accounts that require pallet pickup. This new space had exactly what we needed!

Old Roastery of only 1000 sqft on Rozzelles Ferry Rd on Move Out Day :(

Enderly Coffee now has a new roasting facility of 3000 sqft! :)

How much bigger is this new location vs. the old roasting facility?

Our new location is about 2,000 sqft bigger than our last space.

Enderly Coffee got a New Coffee Roaster!

How much more coffee can you process now that you have this new facility?

In our new space with a new roaster, we can process more than double the coffee we could process at our old facility. Our old roaster roast about 13-15 pounds at a time where our new roaster can roast about 30-35 pounds.

With that we are able to cut our roasting time in half, allowing us to store more roasted coffee, produce more for larger purchase orders faster, and provide better turn around times for larger purchase orders. We are also able to have a backstock due to an increase in space, to have bulk coffee orders ready to go out ASAP.

Now that you have a new space, what is possible for Enderly?

With our new space we have endless possibilities. We can widen our reach in Charlotte and surrounding areas, but most importantly deepen our relationships in our communities. We exist to keep people first and drink a consistently good cup of coffee with our neighbors, family, and friends.

Enderly’s coffee collaboration with Petty Thieves and Doc Porter’s

Are there any new products/services/activities that we can expect from Enderly as a result of this move? We’ve been able to dream up new products, like our limited edition Bourbon Barrel-Aged Coffee collaboration with Petty Thieves Brewery and Doc Porter's Distillery. We also have a few new products releasing this holiday season that you haven’t seen from us before.

We’re excited to plan events in our new space as well. Maybe a roastery tour/coffee tasting class or Yoga at the Roastery? Who knows but we’re excited to get the community in our new space and get out new products and offer better services to our clients and community.

Bonus Question: What’s your favorite part about working at Enderly? :)

My favorite part, apart from always having good coffee lol would have to be the community and the support system I have around me.

I love that I’ve been able to meet some amazing people in the industry but also to learn from one the best in our city is truly a privilege that I do not take for granted. Enderly has easily become family and enriched my life more than I ever expected.

Introducing 4 lb Bags for the home

We have been selling 5 lb bags for quite some time now, but since everything else has been turned on its head this season we have done some work to switch things up in Enderly as well (but with good reason).  For customers in our cafe and on our website, we will now offer 4 lbs bags instead of 5lb bags for you to purchase!

What the What!?!?! Let us elaborate.

We are constantly analyzing what we do, with the goals of making YOU smile (as well as creating sustainability in our business). We believe this is a win win for all of us.

Here are some reasons behind this move and why it makes our world’s a better place.

  1. Inflation… we are all looking for ways to tighten things up these days (our business included). More people are buying in bulk through our cafe & website than ever before. Some are buying for their homes, some for their offices. Buying in bulk seems to make the most sense if you are looking to continue enjoying specialty coffee, but want to be financially smart about it. Just make sure we are storing the coffee properly (room temperature & as airtight as possible) and your beans should be delicious if enjoyed within a month of roasting.

  2. One 4 lb bag (rather than 4 or 5 x 12oz bags) is less packaging, less stickers, less labor, and thus less cost. It keeps our costs down to help us keep your cost down.

  3. We heard it ALL the time that “5 lbs of coffee is just SOOO much coffee.” After talking to many, many customers we heard that 4 lbs felt like an ideal amount of coffee for a month.

  4. People LOVE deals, so we are excited to share that every 4 lb bag purchased on our website automatically qualifies for free shipping. You also may know this, but if you live within the I-485 loop here in Charlotte Mecklenburg you also qualify for FREE home delivery every Friday as part of our #FridayHomeDelivery Program. You hit the $25 minimum with the purchase of a 4 lb bag (You can also add on baked goods or other goodies, check out who we are partnering with this week!).

No matter how you buy Enderly (or any other small, local coffee roaster even), we love that you are choosing to pour your money into the local economy. It is an intentional decision that tangibly makes our world a better place.

Holiday Gift Idea: What's better than a customized bag of coffee?

Doesn’t it always feel like time moves so much faster the last few months of the year? Last-minute projects, preparations for family visits, and the million activities everyone seems to get into can leave holiday shopping at the bottom of your list.

If you’re anything like me, when you finally start thinking about holiday gifts you want to keep it personal, useful, and (if possible!) local. That’s where Enderly Coffee comes in.

Our Custom Label Coffee Bags are the perfect gift for the coffee lover (or, let’s be honest, the coffee-needer) in your life. We work with you to create a special, customized order to leave your family, friends, coworkers, or clients feeling like the most important person this holiday season!

Holiday Gift for Clients

Here are some common questions we get asked from people who are interested in purchasing the Custom Label Coffee Bags.

Yelp Top 100 List

How many emotions can you feel on one phone call?

  • Surprised, Shocked, Humbled, Undeserving, Grateful, Proud to name a few

I got a phone call Friday afternoon from Charlotte Five. “Would someone be available to give a statement on the news from Yelp?” a lady asked. They wanted a statement on our recognition from Yelp, a newly released list that named us amongst the top cafes in the country. I was unaware of this published list.

This was a phone call that I took as a prank. No joke. There are so many great shops in our city & country, many who have more money & style, better equipment, better Instagram pages, bigger parking lot, etc.

As I stammered through my words, I was also googling “100 best coffee shops yelp 2022” and there we were, published on thehill.com at spot #23.

Enderly was recognized by the Yelp algorithms as #23 coffee shop in United States, out of literally thousands of deserving cafes in cities from coast to coast. I will start by saying this is such a team effort. Credit for our customer’s cafe experience goes to the employees who put in the effort and care to make every customer’s day! Currently Kemoy, Mariah, Kenya, Michelle & Alyssa are crushing it! If you have not met them maybe this is a great week to swing through, just sayin’.

We really do love what we get to do each day.

We are joy dealers, facilitating an experience with a goal to make your day better. What we do here at Enderly (in our Wholesale, at our Cafe, at our Farmer's Market, and beyond) is rooted in this truth and we are simply humans doing our best to live this out and to lift others up. This is why we exist.

Are we perfect? Not even close.

Have there been bumps in the road? Almost daily.

Are there days I ponder if this is all even worth it? Not gonna lie, yup.

Entrepreneurship is hard. In 2014 when I quit teaching I just wanted to roast beans and share them with people I love. I never intended to manage people & relationships. I never fathomed the need to hire lawyers and CPAs. I never considered the burden of carrying the responsibility to grow, motivate, balance, train, coach, and lead adults. I was a middle school teacher, give me a 7th grader and Ill coach them any day. I still have almost no clue what I am doing in many of these areas.

But each day we wake up with a gratitude that we get to live in this truth, that we are joy dealers. We get to lift others up on the daily!

So with that, we take all of the emotions and we receive this recognition with gratitude and humility. Thank YOU for allowing us to live out our purpose.

We know how much everyone in our industry puts into their craft. Go out and visit local shops in your neighborhood and city. We are all in this together!

And as always, thank YOU for supporting your local economy. It really does make our world a better place!

With Love,

Tony & Becky

Given Up On Decaf?

Written By: A Caffeinated Coffee Loving Person

People turn their nose up when we talk decaf. We get it! Coffee lovers take pride in being fully caffeinated.

But there are times when you may just want that warm cup, but without the extra buzz. The problem is decaf has a bad rap! It rarely tastes good and no one promotes it.

Well Let’s Change That Now…. Let us brag on our decaf!

You may have heard a bit about our Honduras Coffee, from Finca El Conejo…. Well the same #DirectRelationship team De La Finca Coffee brings us this stunning decaf.

Notes From the Team

PRODUCER
Marcala Collective Lot

This is an experimental decaf we recently started bringing to the States and are very excited to share with you all.

We sourced this honey process coffee from a collective of small producers we know in the Marcala region of Honduras. We then sent it to Descamex in Mexico where they decaffeinated the coffee with pure water from Pico de Orizaba using a water saturation process that removes caffeine without the use of chemicals.

We (Enderly) then craft roast it with the same love and attention as we do all of our beans, because we love you and you deserve a great decaf (if you wish).

The Truth About Big Coffee

Full transparancy, we got the bulk of this article from another company, Atlas Coffee Company, and thought it was a great share and explanation to explain supporting small, local businesses that are ethically sourcing their coffee (such as us 🤗).

The Truth About Big Coffee - source

Well, guess what? The dirty secret is that big coffee producers are capitalizing on that (daily coffee) routine - and it’s significantly worse for you, farmers, and even the environment.

You see, coffee comes from the fruit of a coffee tree. And like all crops, there is a perfect moment in time to harvest that coffee fruit - a moment in time that makes that coffee taste INCREDIBLE.

Unfortunately big coffee companies are mostly focused on extracting higher profit margins from your coffee routine. So they use what’s called “machine harvesting” to pick their coffee. Basically, fields of coffee trees are harvested all at once by these behemoth gas guzzling machines.

The result? Most of the coffee that gets picked isn’t ripe, which is one reason your cup of coffee ends up tasting SO BAD. And, in other industries that machine harvest (ex. wine) it’s well known that materials  other than the harvest crop can fall into collection bins - including leaves, bugs, and even dead birds.

Even worse? Machine harvesting takes jobs away from farmers across the world and can also be really bad for the environment.

After harvest, and in an effort to mask all of the shortcuts taken, most coffee chains over-roast their beans. Over-roasting burns out all of the real flavors and leaves it tasting like charcoal, bitter and burnt.

Big coffee companies will try to spin this in marketing as BOLD or FULL-BODIED, but in reality it’s just really really burnt and they’re banking on you not being able to tell the difference.

So take it for what it is, but we know feel really good that we are able to know a little more about the impact our coffee sourcing has on the environment, the people at origin, and for you.

On top of these impacts, your purchases from a local, small business is SOOOOO good for your local city & economy. You are creating jobs and paying taxes. You are telling a local business that you support what they bring to your city. Small businesses literally make the fingerprints of a city and they NEED you!

Think about it, when you think about that favorite city you love to visit… what comes to mind? The chain restaurants and coffee shops? Or the eclectic, unique, small, local businesses with personality?

We love being a small part of the fingerprint of Charlotte and love bringing you beans that are generally better for the farmers, environment, and for you!

Thanks for coming to our TED Talk.

It's Not Cold Brew, introducing SnapChill ™ by Elemental Beverage

Written By: Drea Macias

Some of you may have already picked up a 6-pack of our seasonal Sweater Weather blend in its Snapchill canned version. Others got a taste of our Ethiopian origin beans as Snapchill canned coffee this summer.

Now, we’re happy to give you a formal introduction to Snapchill Canned Coffee and the people behind it, Elemental Beverage Company. We were able to get in touch with their incredible team to provide you with this sneak peek into their world.

Here’s what they had to say:

Can you share a brief history of Elemental?

Elemental was co-founded by MIT graduate Dave Dussault, who had a love of fresh, hot coffee and tea, but recognized that his favorite beverages lost their luster when made cold, due to dilution or oxidation.  Proving that necessity is the mother of invention, our team of flavor and thermodynamics-obsessed engineers leveraged the fundamental laws of physics to make hot-brewed coffee cold without changing anything but the  temperature.

 What is Snapchill™?

Elemental's Snapchill Process allows us to brew coffee hot and then rapidly chill in an instant, to preserve all the freshness, flavor, and aroma of freshly brewed coffee in an icy cold format.

How is it different from Cold Brew?

There are nearly a thousand aromatics in coffee that are only extracted using heat. The cold brew process simply does not extract all the flavor from the beans, which is why it yields a flat, generic set of flavors.  Not bad, but limited. The beauty of coffee lies in its vast variety: the terroir and climate of the source, the careful art and science of roasting, can yield such different flavor profiles, which are all sacrificed by cold brewing.

Snapchilling changes the game, through the process of brewing hot and rapidly cooling the beverage, to capture, preserve and enhance every note, distinction and flavor of coffee.  Elemental’s Snapchill Technology, combined with proprietary cold coffee production expertise, vastly improves the taste of any coffee – without ice, dilution or chemicals – and enables a perfectly prepared cold can of coffee each and every time.

What should customers expect in the can?

Customers should expect all of the freshness, flavor, and aroma of their favorite roaster's hot pour-over in a ready-to-drink cold can!

With this brief look into who these people are and what Snapchill Canned Coffee is doing to change the coffee world, you can understand why we’re such fans of theirs. That along with the fact that they’re helping us present you Enderly Coffee in a new light.

3 Ways to Get SnapChill

  1. Stop by our café to pick up a 6-pack

  2. Add it to your online order for shipping

  3. Add it to your Friday Delivery order and we will put it on your porch

Crack open a can of Sweater Weather and Cheers to their innovation and a new way to enjoy coffee!

The Coffee Bag That Saved The World...

We wanted you all to hear it from us first, so that you’re not surprised too much by our new upcoming look. That’s right, our signature kraft coffee bag (of 5 years!) that we all know and love is going to be upgraded. One of the main reasons behind this design change is because we decided to invest into sustainability. We are doing this by choosing a more eco-friendly packaging, called Biotre, for our new coffee bags and we are thrilled to share the product with you all!

The Biotre material was introduced in 2011 as a material that makes environmentally friendly wholesale coffee bags a possibility. Biotre is composed of multiple laminated layers of compostable materials, including wood pulp and sugar cane. The company behind Biotre, TricorBraun Flex, created this line with a comprehensive approach to sustainability in mind. They are focused on waste reduction with 60% of Biotre packaging naturally breaking down in a short period of time, the paper part in only 84 days. Also, with 60% of the Biotre film layers made of renewable materials, Biotre does their part in preserving natural resources.

Our decision in investing in Biotre was influenced by a desire for quality and sustainability, plus this bag adds some functionality also.

Quality - The outer part of the bag is paper-based, but what sets this bag apart from other eco-friendly options is the inner liner that helps preserve the coffee.  Yes it is a liner that is made of plastic, but has an additive which allows it to break down over time quicker than average.

Sustainable - Each week we go through 200-400 12oz bags and we are continuing to grow.  When you look at that over a year, there are a lot of used Enderly Bags in landfills.  We are just a small company, but it is a simple choice we can make to stay true to our values that also pushes us to be more eco-minded. We are always looking for ways to grow.

Functional - Finally, these bags RESEAL! That is right. We have a zipper that allows you to keep your coffee airtight in between uses. We have wanted to add this feature for a while now. Now is the time so LET’S GO!

Stay tuned, new bags will be hitting the shelves sooner than you think!

From our Backyard to Harris Teeter...

Written By: Tony Santoro

It was 2012, and I was driving home from the long day as a 7th grade math teacher at Eastway Middle School. I was soaking up the stillness of the drive. I knew that when I walked in the door of our 1000 sqft home in Enderly Park I was going to be walking into a home with our then 1 year old and my pregnant wife (also exhausted from her long day as a 3rd grade teacher at Merry Oaks Elementary School). We would go through the evening ritual of dinner, clean up, bedtime routine, then couch!

As Becky got herself as comfortable as a pregnant, working mom could be, I on the other hand was headed to the third bedroom (soon to be nursery) where I kept my coffee roasting hobby. I would grab my Whirley Pop, table, camping stove, colander, and green coffee beans and head outside to the dark backyard with the motion sensor light. The light would turn on and id set up my “roastery” in the backyard, only to leave a trail of smoke down Effingham Rd that peaked all of our neighbors nose and mind. The motion light would turn off mid-roast and I would have to do a wild leg kick dance while continuing to keep my arm propelling the lever on the Whirley Pop, just to get the light back on. Honestly, one time the light came on and there was an Opossum about 10 feet behind me in the middle of my roast. I successfully kept my arm rotating the lever while hollering at the rabid animal to scare it away!

Fast forward through the next 9 years filled with sacrifice, hard work, sacrifice, community support, serving, and yes more sacrifice. We have learned so much and evolved as a company.

This season (2020-2021) has been so wild. In our home we have navigated this pandemic with 4 kids in 3 different learning situations, a coffee roasting company, and helping run Foster Village Charlotte. In our company we have been managing our wholesale operation, our cafe, our e-commerce operation, and our pandemic pivot Friday Home Delivery service.

Well let’s add one more ball to the juggling here, we are thrilled to share with you that in June 2021 we received our first PO from Harris Teeter. We worked so hard this summer to get the coffee produced and distributed across about 190 stores from Maryland to Georgia. We are humbled to be receiving emails and social media tags from customers across the east coast.

Know that whether you pick up a bag in our cafe, from one of our partner’s shelves, or in a Baltimore Harris Teeter that the coffee is ethically traded, small batch roasted, hand packed, and still fueling our local community! Sometimes growth can create some separation in a brand from the end consumer, but we are here in Enderly Park operating as a small business with a handful of amazing employees, serving our neighbors, and seeking to lift others up. That is what we do and will continue to do.

Much Love,

Tony

The 20 second read:

Our State Street and Brazil are available in most Harris Teeter stores across the Company, from Maryland down to Georgia.  We are running an $11.99 promo through the end of the year!

It would mean the world to us for you to grab a bag or two and share with anyone you know out of our region. Let them know that they can support our small business by grabbing a bag in their local Harris Teeter.  We have worked REAL hard to make this happen!

We are still the same compassionate, small business over here in Enderly Park.  A successful partnership with Harris Teeter would allow us to continue to strengthen and fulfill our mission of Lifting Others Up.  It is the best way to live!

Much Love,

Tony

Working Through a Pandemic - Drea's Story

Written by: Drea Macias

Had anyone told me almost two years ago that I would find myself working as a barista I would not have believed them. Twenty-two months ago I was entirely too caught up in my own mind to think about what it means to serve others in this way. Then, I would’ve probably said that I was not equipped to take on that position. Now, I cannot imagine what my life would have looked like without Enderly and everything that comes with it. Honestly, I cannot remember much else from that time apart from making sure I could find something in common with Tecoby. Oh, that and figuring how I was supposed to master latte art overnight.

Fast forward a few months in at the café, and I’ve learned a few things. My latte art starts looking less abstract. I recognize a few faces, they recognize mine, and I see these Enderly regulars at least once a week. Then, just when I think that I’m getting the hang of things, we’re told to go into lockdown. At this point, I’m working part-time at the café and part-time at the Enderly roastery. Part of me kept thinking that if I thought things would continue as “normal”, then they would. They did for a while. I’m grateful for that time because it was a time of transition in my personal life when I needed something to stay consistent. Enderly was a place I knew I could continue to see myself in when everything else was changing.

I couldn’t tell you exactly when we got a text from Tony, but I know that it said something along the lines of “if  I can keep Enderly open and you all employed, then I will”. That was my lifeline because my constant in this season of life was no longer safe. Our café doors stayed open, but we’d see fewer people every day until we saw maybe one or two at most. There was this ominous presence inside the shop as we opened up every morning because we knew we wouldn’t see or interact with many people for more than a few minutes. We kept our tables and chairs stacked up high hoping that wouldn’t deter anyone from stopping by. Even then Tecoby and I helped implement our new routines, we would take turns thoroughly cleaning just about every surface. We would talk about anything and everything to distract from our fears. Oddly enough, even with uncertainty looming, that is when we all got to know each other best. Tony spent countless hours pivoting, doing so with transparency keeping us all on the same page. Tecoby and I formed a bond that I didn’t know I needed, a bond that blossomed into a beautiful friendship.

In so many ways, my experience during the pandemic differs from most, and especially from those that did their part by staying home. The expectation was the same, I was supposed to keep working until working was no longer an option. The time in which we all played our roles with the Hospital Coffee Drops and Friday Delivery seems like so long ago. Writing the notes that went along with every 2lb bag of coffee for the healthcare workers on the front lines served as a reminder that there was still hope. People were showing up for each other in a new way. Packaging Friday Delivery orders reminded me that people were still showing up for small, local businesses. In a way you all also showed up for me, and there are no words to describe how thankful I am to have floated through that season of life.

I learned that I formed beautiful relationships, discovered new creative outlets like film photography, and most importantly the confidence I needed to believe in myself. It was all of that that inspired me to start over in New York. I couldn’t have done it without my Enderly fam and a lot of Enderly coffee.
