Sustainable Farming Practices & Certifications: Part 3

Microlot Coffee: Enderly’s Limited Release & Specialty Coffees

Specialty Coffees From Nicaragua

Sometimes, a label is just a label. In the case of Adela Del Carmen’s Nature Friendly Microlot, the label “certified organic” is just that. Adela's farm is so ideally suited, that they are able to use very few agricultural inputs-creating very naturally produced beans. They are not certified organic, yet use fewer chemicals than many organic-certified farms! Our specialty coffees come from Nicaragua, through a co-op called Gold Mountain Coffee Growers. They are a group of small family-owned farms who focus on high quality microlot coffees to fight local poverty as well as environmentally sustainable farming practices.

Limited Release Coffees

Our limited release coffees are similar, in that they are ethically sourced from small-scale farmers who establish sustainable practices with microlot coffees. These coffees come from many different countries, including our latest release from El Salvador. Limited #36 is from the family farm of Carlos Mauricio Lemus Landaverde. Carlos and his family take great pride in the quality of their coffee and are dedicated to continuing the legacy of producing the best beans possible. His award-winning coffees have made it possible to create a sustainable environment, and support his family.

Understanding The Terms: What is a Microlot?

Microlot coffee refers to small-batch coffee production, often sourced from single estates or micro-lots. These practices highlight:

  • Quality and Traceability: Microlot coffee often emphasizes high-quality beans with distinct flavor profiles, traceable back to specific farms or regions.

  • Direct Relationships: Close relationships between farmers and roasters, promoting transparency and fair compensation.

  • Sustainability Practices: Many microlot producers adopt sustainable farming practices, although not always certified.

Microlot coffee is typically one of the most sustainable and impactful ways to purchase coffee. It cuts out the middleman – often a company or person who purchases the coffee for pennies per cup – and gives the farmers a predictable and sustainable income.

We love making the human connection- the truth beyond the catch phrases and trendy terms. Sustainable processes are always a priority, and the humans behind that pursuit have our fierce support. We hope by learning about the families and the lives you impact with your purchases, you can sincerely recognize the value of being an intentional and curious consumer!
